Raymond O'Hara

Contemporary artist.

A Japanese national born in Shanghai in 1941. Currently resides in Tokyo.
He performs under two artist names: Raymond O'Hara and MOMO YAMA.
Born in Shanghai and raised in Japan, Raymond has been creating unique works that fuse diverse cultures such as fashion, fine art, street art, and music for half a century.

The works embody a mysterious aesthetic that transcends time and national borders, and the melancholic and mysterious characters and landscapes resonate with each viewer's individual sensibilities, drawing them into diverse narratives accompanied by the sound of the blues harp.

■Brief Biography
She began painting on her own in her twenties and won numerous awards in various competitions. Her exceptional fashion sense led her to start her career as a fashion illustrator for magazines such as "an an" and "ELLE Japon."

Afterward, while creating massive ceiling and wall paintings in cutting-edge buildings and hair salons in Harajuku and Aoyama, he established his own unique style of selling his works by visiting bars and clubs himself.

Due to the nostalgic atmosphere of his works, he was called the "modern-day Toulouse-Lautrec" and became a well-known figure among those in the know.
In 1992, in the Fuji TV drama "Someone Loves Her," the painting "Christmas in London" by Raymond O'Hara, the artist whom the lead character Miho Nakayama admired, appeared as the key visual in each episode.

He suddenly rose to prominence, and exhibitions of Raymond's work were held in prestigious department stores and art galleries throughout the country.
Since the 2010s, she has changed her artist name to MOMO YAMA, coinciding with her challenge to create an avant-garde series of works that are completely different from Raymond's style. She has also expanded her exhibition venues overseas.
As an artist, I want to do something beneficial for society at the end of my life, so I have decided to focus on charitable activities from now on. I will be donating a portion of the proceeds from my artwork sales to art education programs for children.
